POKOTABI / Taro'sKitchen
太郎の台所
Taro'sKitchen is a Kamata izakaya serving fried taro, sashimi and charcoal-grilled dishes. Its menu also features potato salad with smoked egg and sours made with fruit that changes daily.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
One of the pleasures of Taro'sKitchen is that you can order even a single piece of its fried taro. One visitor recalled a lightly crisp coating and the natural sweetness of the taro as the details that stood out. It is an easy choice whether you want just a small bite to start or something to enjoy alongside other dishes.
For sashimi, a platter ordered during one visit included striped jack, tuna, cured mackerel, gurnard and Spanish mackerel, offering a range of different flavours. The menu also lists bonito sashimi from Kagoshima, sea bream sashimi from Mie and cured mackerel, making it a good option for a meal built around fish. On another visit, a guest singled out the potato salad with smoked egg and cream cheese, the fried taro and the generously sized yakitori.
There is also pleasure in ordering a few different dishes to share, rather than settling on just one. The menu ranges from house-smoked frankfurter sausage and teppan-grilled diced beef steak to cream cheese marinated in tamari soy sauce—all suited to a drink or as part of a meal. For something more substantial, there is keema curry rice made with minced duck.
Drinks include draft Sapporo Black Label and a large bottle of Sapporo Lager (Akaboshi), as well as highballs and sours made with fruit that changes daily. The “Chunky Fruit Sour,” made with the fruit of the day, might appeal if you fancy sipping a drink while picking at a few dishes.
One visitor's account mentions counter seating and tatami rooms at the back, offering different options for dining alone or gathering with a group. If choosing from the menu feels difficult, there is also a course focused on lighter snacks and another, with 56 dishes, for a more substantial meal.
